Most people still don't realize how toxic cleaning products can be. Cleaning products in general are so toxic that they are governed by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and are considered household hazardous waste. Bon Ami is one noteworthy exception.
For over twenty years I have been cleaning my home with baking soda, a squirt bottle of fifty-fifty vinegar and water, liquid soap, and Bon Ami.
Baking soda, gallon jugs of distilled white vinegar and Bon Ami can be purchased at any supermarket. Liquid soap is sold in every natural food store.
Here are some simple nontoxic cleaning tricks:
- Wash windows and mirrors with a mixture of half vinegar and half water. Crumple newspapers from your recycling bin to wipe windows for a super shine.
- To clear clogged drains, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of white vinegar down the drainpipe and cover tightly for one minute. The chemical reaction between the two substances will form a fizzy pressure in the drain and dislodge any obstructive matter. Rinse with hot water.
- Scour your sink, clean your countertops, and remove grease from your stovetop with Bon Ami. Its oxygen bleach whitens without toxic fumes and the powdered soap cuts right through grease.
- In the bathroom, use Bon Ami to clean everything from tile to toilets.
By using nontoxic cleaners, your home will be sparkling clean and the air will be fresh and pure. You'll save money and protect the health of your family. |
